(Feb 2022) There & Back:
Broken Hill
Tom Chesson

Broken Hill is a legendary Australian Outback city. Whether it's the Line of Lode Miners Memorial providing the perfect location for some early morning solitude, or the history embedded in the city's building walls, Broken Hill is well worth a pilgrimage.

Covid has encouraged many friends into exploring their own home state's backyard for holiday escapes, and they have gushed to me with enthusiastic praise at the many never-before wonders of back-country NSW they have now experienced..

If there is any good to come out of the recent lockdowns and restrictions on international travel that we have all experieced, it has been that it has forced us to look around our own neighbourhoods. I for one, reckon this exploration has highlighted and reminded us of just what a diverse, awesome place Australia is.

Getting to know your own backyard isn't a bad thing.

Tom grew up on a farm in far western NSW and knew at a young age his shooting was best done with a camera. With a journalism, media adviser, CEO and now  with his new job working on a plan to release the carp herpes virus into Australia's waterways, photography is part of Tom's everyday work. Outside Australia's capital cities is where Tom does most of his shooting and wandering around regional and rural Australia is home to his 'happy place'. Tom usually has a camera on him and can be followed via Twitter @tomchesson01
