Ezy Reading:
Bessemer, AL
Evan Kanarakis

Tonight I wandered down to the creek-
When the rail plant closed
The Old Man came here to rest
One less mouth to feed
But every morsel
Now a poison meal

Against the moon, these longleaf
Become Pop’s withered hands
Reaching out
From the belly of this rotten town
To beg forgiveness
Of promises he couldn’t keep

Ezy Reading is out every month.
